bb-fuckin-rrrrrrr

ok, it’s not really cold, but judging by austin’s mild climate, 49 is pretty chilly.  that’s how cold it was this morning when i left for school.  luckily it will hit mid 70’s by day’s end, just in time for me to go to the gym w/o having to wear a coat.

yup, gym time.  just rejoined after pitching a fit to the ‘gym consultant’ about the outrageous ‘processing fee’.  $79 to ‘process’ my application when i’m already in the system being as i’m a former member that canceled less than a year ago!  but 24 hr fitness has gone so corporate that their schlocks on the floor can’t accomodate customers in the least, so i was forced to fork over the 80.  cindy was so embarrassed by my display that she walked away.  🙂  in a rare display of sympathy i apologized to the ‘consultant’ for being a prick, and of course he told me i wasn’t being one.  i would be a prick right now to point out that he wasn’t in particularly good shape, and therefore wouldn’t make a very good sell or promote a good image for the gym.  oops!  i was just a prick!  dang, it’s so difficult to restrain myself.  either way he still go my money, so it really doesn’t matter much does it?

yesterday we started the build part of this semester’s studio.  we did a small intervention in an east austin alley by creating a ‘living wall’ – it’s basically a steel structure w/ mesh screen to contain compost and soil that will allow plants and vines to grow all over.  it serves as a fence wall and gate to the front of a new alley house, or garage apartment.  this part of east austin is trying to densify by adding garage apartments, and what our studio is doing is trying to envision the alley as a new, more private and intimate street setting.  the alley will be the front entry to some new homes, so it shouldn’t look shitty as alleys tend to do.

sahil wrote up a nice little entry about the SNAP House on his blog.
